Karate competition of Asian Games concludes with Japan dominating Male Team Kata

The thrilling competition of Karate at the 2023 Asian Games concluded with a spectacular final day that had Japan winning the crown in Male Team Kata and Kazakhstan topping the medal table.

The powerhouse nation of Kazakhstan finished on top of the medal table of Karate at the 2023 Asian Games after claiming a total of eight medals including three golds. Japan and the hosts of China also registered deserving performances with three and two gold medals each.

The last day of Karate action at Hangzhou had Japan dominating the competition of Male Team Kata. The Japanese squad used their World Champion status to prevail and claim the gold medal following a convincing victory over Macau in the final, with scores of 44.50 to 41.70.

In Female Kumite -50kg, the title went to Chinese Taipei as Shaiu Shuang Gu defeated Olympian Moldir Zhangbyrbay of Kazakhstan in the final. The thrilling final ended with a 5-5 tie and victory by Hantei for the representative of Chinese Taipei.

The next edition of the Asian Games will be held in 2026 in Nagoya (Japan). Karate will once again be part of the sports programme of the event.
