Actually, ”Karate” is less than 100 years old, because the Okinawan fighting art was reinvented in 1930’s to popularize it in mainland Japan.
Karate styles, belts, terminology, ranks, uniforms, gradings, tournaments and even the name itself (空手道 ”Way of The Empty Hand”) are new additions. ? Without these inventions, Karate might have died out… But it didn’t! ?
Today it’s even an Olympic sport. What a remarkable evolution! ?
